Hojarascas cookie recipe is a very traditional Mexican cookie, its like a shortbread cookie, full of flavor and so easy to make.
this Hojarascas cookies only uses 3 ingredients
- sweet condensed milk
- vegetable shortening
and for the outside of the cookie you will need white sugar and cinnamon.
what tradition do you have for Christmas? in my home was to make many many cookies as possible to give away to friends and neighbors.
And this Hojarascas cookie recipe it was of our recipe, because you can get a lot from 1 recipe.
once this cookies are out of the oven, just give them 2 minutes to rest , then the cookies are ready to add them to the mixture of sugar and cinnamon, add them to both sides of the cookie.
CAN I MAKE THIS HOJARASCAS COOKIES IN ADVANCE?
you can make the dough in advance but not the cookie, you need the cookie to be hot so the mix of sugar and cinnamon stick to the cookie.

HOJARASCAS COOKIE RECIPE
- 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 can sweet condensed milk
- 1/3 cup sugar you can add more sugar if you need to
- 1 tbsp cinnamon or more if you need to
in a bowl add your flour and the shortening and try to brake it in tiny pieces, like sand.
you can use a pastry blender, 2 knifes or your hands, just be gently if you use your hands not to mix it up like a bread you just want to brake the shortening and mix it with the flour.
once my flour shortening mix texture is like sand this is ready to add sweet condensed milk,add it half of the can and mix it up, add more sweet condensed milk for a moist dough.
it will depends on the weather from where you live how much condensed milk you will need.
I use most of the time a 2/3 of the can.
you are looking for a soft come together dough like sugar cookies dough.
the dough it may be a little breakable its ok just get it together with your fingers and keep rolling the dough to 1/4 thickness and use cookie cutters to cut out the cookies. Transfer the cookies to lined baking sheets.
and bake them on a preheat it oven 350F for 9-10 minutes or until the bottom part of the cookie is golden brown,
after 9-10 minutes, get them out of the oven let it sit in the cookie sheet for 2 minutes then Coat the baked cookies with the sugar mixture and enjoy!

CAN I AD SOMETHING ELSE FOR TEXTURE?
yes, you can add some texture chopping some walnuts or pecans very finely. once you make the dough you can add the walnuts/pecans to the dough and mix it up very well.
